Alycia Lane is name calling?
So you've probably read the story, heard the radio jokes, and maybe moved on to googling "Alycia Lane" and some inappropriate terms she allegedly called a plain clothes officer...
When I picked up the Metro this morning and saw the headline story - it certainly got my attention. And once I got to the office, my team and I spent 5 minutes discussing her situation. Which is rather unfortunate. But what makes it more interesting to me is that she was allegedly using her iPhone® to capture some sort of fight. And I wonder what she would have done with those photos if she hadn't been hauled off to jail. If it were me, my first inclination would be to email to everyone I know! Would she have posted them to a social networking web site like Facebook within a private profile? Was she going to post the photos on YouTube and share them with her social network?
And if she did any of those things and the situation became public (like it already has) how would it affect her career.
Newspapers and internet news sources are full of stories of individuals losing their job based on their social network profile. You truly have to consider what you post in your online profile. I'm definitely not saying Alycia Lane was going to do anything of the sort. But just a reminder to you - tell your friends, kids, and take it to heart. Posting inappropriate photographs in public arenas can harm your existing career, affect your job interviews or college applications. What you post on social networking web sites can take a life of its own. According to Vault.com, 82% of employers have said they would use information in a candidates social networking profile to make a decision on employment. Don't allow your profile to have that sort of impact on your future.
